In 1977 he graduated from the Janacek Academy of Music and Arts, successfully auditioning for the&nbsp;<strong>Czech Philharmonic Orchestra<\/strong>&nbsp;in the same year.<\/p>\n<p>He has enjoyed success in a number of international competitions, notably in&nbsp;<strong>Markneukirchen<\/strong>&nbsp;in the former DDR in 1975 finalist, in 1977&nbsp;2nd prize, in&nbsp;<strong>ARD<\/strong>&nbsp;Munich 3rd prize, and at the first Isle of Man International Double Bass Competition in 1978, which he won outright. This led to a broadcast solo recital in London&#8217;s&nbsp;<strong>Wigmore Hall<\/strong>&nbsp;and the world premiere of a concerto written for him by Richard Rodney Bennett with the English Chamber Orchestra under Michael Tilson Thomas in the&nbsp;<strong>Queen Elizabeth Hall.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hudec is currently the principal Double Bass player for the<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Czech Philharmonic<\/strong>, taking over from Franti\u0161ek Po\u0161ta&nbsp; and Zden\u011bk Benda &nbsp;in 1990.<\/p>\n<p>Chamber music plays an important part in Hudec&#8217;s professional life. A member of the Czech Philharmonic Octet, Hudec works regularly with three of the Czech Republic&#8217;s most successful quartets, the Pra\u017eak, Kocian, Skampa and Stamic.<\/p>\n<p>Most significant, however, is Hudec&#8217;s long-standing partnership with his colleague from the Czech Philharmonic, principal cellist Franti\u0161ek Host.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1980 Ji\u0159i Hudec has been a member of the faculty at the&nbsp;<strong>Prague Academy of Music and Arts<\/strong>where he lectures keen musicians. In 2001 he joined the academic staff of the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester where he now teaches on a permanent basis.&nbsp;<strong>Ji\u0159\u00ed&nbsp;Hudec&nbsp;<\/strong>was recognised for his accomplishments, rewarded with an induction into the<strong>&nbsp;Fellowship of the Royal Northern College (UK).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He took part in seminars and masterclasses in Tokyo, Toyama and Memambetsu in Japan, Sommerakademie in Detmold &nbsp;and Dresden, Capbreton, Glasgow, Beijing, Bass club at Menuhin school. Since 2013 leads regularly masterclasses at ISA Semmering (Austria).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He is invited as juror &nbsp;to international competitions &#8211; &nbsp;last one 2015 &nbsp;in Ankara &nbsp;and &nbsp;2016 &nbsp;in most prestigious &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>ARD Munich.<\/p>\n<p>The most significant pupils:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Bo\u017eo Parad\u017eik<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>former solo bassist with the Stuttgart Symphony Orchestra and professor at Detmold and Freiburg, is pioneering new standards of virtuosity on the instrument.&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bozoparadzik.com\/\">web<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Petr Ries,<\/strong>&nbsp;2cnd solo bassist of Czech philharmonic Orchestra,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/http\/\/petrries.com\">web<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Roman Koudelka,<\/strong>&nbsp;member of Czech philharmonic Orchestra<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ond\u0159ej Balcar<\/strong>, member of Czech philharmonic Orchestra<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rastislav Sokol<\/strong>, principal bass player of Slovak philharmonic orchestra<\/li>\n<li><strong>Burak Marlali<\/strong>, principal bass player of Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gijorgi Cincievski,&nbsp;<\/strong>principal bass player of Malta Philharmonic Orchestra<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<p>http:\/\/www.hudec.org","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ji\u0159\u00ed Hudec was born in Brno in 1953 and studied at the conservatory there under Julius Vetruba.
