A native of Bansk\u00e1 Bystrica, he started playing the piano at the age of seven, and later studied double bass at the Conservatory in \u017dilina. In the years 1986-1995 he played in popular groups in various European countries, mainly in Scandinavia. In 1996, he became a permanent member of the orchestra of the State Opera in Bansk\u00e1 Bystrica, and since 1998 its first double bassist. He is the co-founder of the jazz piano Nothing but Swing Trio, which the very next year after its formation became a laureate of the Jazz Christmas 1999 festival in Bratislava and was included among the leading bodies of the Slovak jazz scene. In 2003, due to being too busy in the field of jazz music, he decided to give up his double bass position in the orchestra and devote himself mainly to activities in the field of jazz music and teaching activities at the J. L. Bell Conservatory in Bansk\u00e1 Bystrica (double bass, jazz music). In addition to working with the NBS Trio, he has been a co-founding member of the ethno-jazz group Pacora Trio since 2004, which in 2007 performed its compositions for orchestra with the Brno Philharmonic, then with the \u017dilina State Chamber Orchestra, Slovak Philharmonic, Ko\u0161ice State Philharmonic, Bohuslav Martina Philharmonic and other orchestras. . In 2006, members of both of these groups created a joint project Bashavel, whose profile CD called Hoorhay won the Radio Head Awards 2017 for the best Slovak jazz album. As a jazz and classical player (Virtuosi di Praga), R\u00f3bert Ragan has given concerts in many European countries, the USA, Canada, South America and China. He is a regular double bass lecturer at the Bass Fest festival and the Bluegrass workshop in Hustope\u010dy (Czech Republic).
