Marek \u0160vestka is a prominent Czech double bass player, accordionist, and music educator with extensive orchestral, chamber, and pedagogical experience, who was introduced to music at the age of four by his parents, pianist Pavla \u0160vestkov\u00e1 and violinist Jan \u0160vestka, growing up in a vibrant artistic environment alongside his three siblings, cellist \u0160t\u011bp\u00e1n, violinist Jana, and soprano Pavl\u00edna, and although he played the violin and guitar during his childhood, he later focused his professional career on the double bass, which he studied at the Jaroslav Kvapil Primary Art School under Karel Malana from 1995 to 2000, continued at the Brno Conservatory in the class of Martin \u0160rank from 2000 to 2006, and successfully completed his academic education at the Jan\u00e1\u010dek Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno under the guidance of Prof. Miloslav Jel\u00ednek between 2006 and 2011, during which time he distinguished himself in numerous domestic and international competitions, winning second prize at the Franti\u0161ek Simandl International Double Bass Competition in Blatn\u00e1 in 2010 and receiving an Honorable Mention at the prestigious International Johann Matthias Sperger Competition for Double Bass in Andernach, Germany, in the same year, while also sharing his expertise with the younger generation as a double bass instructor at the Primary Art School in Kyjov from 2007 to 2011, and today he is a cornerstone of the Brno music scene, serving as a member of the orchestra and the Principal Double Bassist at the Brno City Theatre since 2008, while concurrently performing as a double bass player with the Brno Philharmonic since 2011, an ensemble with which he regularly tours both domestically and internationally across France, the Netherlands, Italy, Japan, Mexico, and Spain, and in addition to his orchestral duties, he is highly active in chamber and crossover music, performing since 2000 as the accordionist of the Shadow Quartet, an ensemble specializing in classical and popular music that entered the Guinness Book of World Records on May 20, 2006, for the fastest performance of N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee, and throughout his rich artistic career, he has long collaborated with the Brno theatres Husa na prov\u00e1zku and G studio, the Brno Double Bass Orchestra since 2006, Czech Radio Brno from 2009 to 2010, the Masaryk University Choir under the direction of Michal Vajda since 2009, the Musica Minore chamber ensemble since 2009, and the acclaimed cimbalom player and composer Dalibor \u0160trunc and his group Cimbal Classic since 2010.<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
