Marcel Comendant is a Moldovan cimbalom player. He gradually gained fame thanks to his successes and awards at international competitions. He won first place at the International Music Competition of Gherorghe Neaga in Chisinau (1995), Constantin Brăiloiu International Music Competition (1996), International Eugen Coca Competition (1998), International Dulcimer Competition in Valašské Meziříčí (2001) and others. Comendant He was born on May 15, 1980 in Chisinau, Moldova. From 1987 to 1998 he studied playing the cimbalom at the Ciprian Porumbescu Music Lyceum in Chisinau under the guidance of professors Varnavii Comendant and Valeriu Luţă. From 2000 to 2005 he continued his studies of playing the cimbalom at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica under the guidance of professor Viktoria Herenscár. Marcel Comendant currently performs in the Pacora Trio, Bashavel Quintet and various chamber ensembles. Pacora trio is a group of experienced musicians, consisting of two Slovaks Stanislav Palúch – violin and Róbert Ragan – double bass and Marcel Comendant – dulcimer. They founded the group in 2004 and their music is based on the fusion of jazz with Slovak and Moldavian folklore music. Their repertoire consists of arrangements of jazz standards, as well as their own original compositions.
