Piotr Zimnik joined one of the world’s finest symphony orchestras, the Berlin Philharmonic, in 2021, having previously gained extensive orchestral experience as the deputy principal double bassist of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, and throughout his distinguished career, he has collaborated with renowned ensembles such as The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, Deutsche Oper, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice (NOSPR), while also remaining highly active as a soloist and chamber musician, serving as a permanent collaborator of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra with whom he regularly performs on the world’s most prestigious stages, and he initially began his double bass studies at the Fryderyk Chopin Music High School in Bytom before honing his skills at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno under the mentorship of Miloslav Jelínek, later perfecting his artistry as a scholarship holder at the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic and at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin, and he is a laureate of numerous awards at prestigious competitions, including the 1st prize at the International Double Bass Competition in Brno (2012), the 3rd prize at the 7th International Johann Matthias Sperger Competition in Andernach, Germany (2012), and the 1st prize at the Yamaha Competition in Brno (2016).
