International Double Bass Competition of

The 13th year of the International Double Bass competition of C. D. von Dittersdorf is organized by the Slovak Double Bass Club. It is dedicated for all double bass players, pupils and students of primary music shools, conservatories, music academies and universities.
Profile of this competition integrates similar international double bass competitions, which are organised all around the world. During of eleven edition of existence it integrated to prominent double bass players and competitions from all of the Europe. Competition is uprised under an international workshops called Bass Fest+ (from the year 2012).
More than 250 competitors from primary art schools, conservatories and art colleges and academies from 15 countries were engaged during 11 edition of the competition existence. In the second and third category each participant has to present obligatory composition, which was composed for actual class of Slovak modern composer, or famous Slovak composers from the past:

2016: Stanislav Palúch: “Remone” and Ľudovít Rajter: “Sonatina” for double bass and piano, Tibor Frešo – “Sonatina in A major” for double bass and piano,
2017: Viktor Fortin: “Toccata for db and piano” and Ľ. Rajter – “Sonatina” for double bass and piano, a ,
2018: Vladimír Martinka: “Magic of castle Veľký Biel” and composition from Ľ. Kubkovič: “Sonatina A major” in SDBC edition.
2019: Miloslav Gajdoš: “Toccata SDBC” a Ľ. Rajter – “Sonata” and “Sonatina” for double bass and piano
2020: V. Kubička: “Suite” for double bass solo, V. Martinka – “Magic castle” for double bass and piano, D. Heyes – “Lamentationes” for solo double bass.
2021: Ernest Šarkozi: „Cigánka“ for double bass and piano
2022: Ľ. Rajter: “Sonatina” for double bass and piano, V. Didi: “Fare Musica”, J. Irshai: “Bassome Mucho”, V. Martinka “Magic Castle”.
By organizing the international double bass competition K.D. von Dittersdorf Slovak Double Bass Club aims to enrich and motivate young musicians, to support healthy competitiveness among double bass students and to offer all participants, listeners and visitors the opportunity to compare their performances with performers from other countries and representatives of other schools.
The main goal of the organizers is to evaluate the competitors as objectively as possible. To secure achieving this goal, organizers pay their highest attention to selection of members of the international jury. It consists of recognized personalities, double bassists, soloists and teachers at leading universities based in Slovakia and abroad.
